The urban design competition works on an area that will host the future City of Science, public spaces and mainly residential private functions. The area is located one kilometer from Porta del Popolo and the city's historic center, and is surrounded by important 20th-century architectural structures: the Foro Italico and the 1960 Olympic Village, Renzo Piano's Music Park, Zaha Hadid's MAXXI Museum, which stands on the opposite side of the street. The project aims to stitch together the residential fabric with the urban-level functions present in the neighborhood and to resolve the lack of clarity and hierarchy in the axes connecting the neighborhood with the city. In addition to the urban development of the area, the construction of residential buildings and a hotel are planned. Pedestrian and communal paths for approaching the present public functions are enhanced, and the quality of natural light in common areas is intended to be improved.
